THIS IS A HYBRID COURSE! MEMBERS MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND MEETINGS BOTH ON ZOOM AND IN PERSON! MEMBERS MUST COMPLETE ALL SECTIONS IN ORDER TO EARN POINTS FOR THIS COURSE!
This 40 hour Reading/ESE course was created to fulfill the new Florida statute requirement for teacher recertification under rule 6A-4.0051. This course prepares educators to offer explicit, systematic, and sequential multisensory instruction in reading, while also learning about the science behind and interventions required for students with reading challenges including ELLs, dyslexia, and a variety of disabilities.
Starting with recertification year 2025, all teachers will need these 40 reading-specific points in order to renew your teaching certificate if you hold any of the following certificates:
- Elementary Education (K-6)
- Prekindergarten/Primary Education (age 3 through grade 3)
- Elementary Education (grades 1-6)
- Primary Education (grades K-3)
- English (grades 1-6)
- Middle Grades English (grades 5-9)
- Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum (grades 5-9)
- English (6-12)
- Reading (K-12)
- Reading (Endorsement)
- English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) (grades K-12)
The session dates are as follows:
- Day 1 – Wednesday, November 6th from 5 pm - 8 pm (via Zoom)
- Day 2 – Thursday, November 7th from 5 pm - 8 pm (via Zoom)
- Day 3 – Saturday, November 9th from 10 am - 4 pm (IN PERSON at the PEA Office)
- Day 4 -- Saturday, November 16th from 10 am - 4 pm (IN PERSON at the PEA Office)
- Day 5 -- Monday, November 18th from 5 pm - 8 pm (via Zoom)
- Day 6 -- Tuesday, November 19th from 5 pm - 8 pm (via Zoom)
- Day 7 -- Wednesday, November 20th from 5 pm - 8 pm (via Zoom)
(You must attend and complete all 7 sections of the class and complete the follow-up to meet the requirement and earn in-service points)
This course is delivered in a HYBRID format with weeknights on Zoom and Saturdays at the PEA office located at:

- All PEA Professional Development courses are offered exclusively and for FREE to members!
- Preference is given to PEA members with certification expiring soon.
- Registration is limited to 50 participants.
